A substantial rear extension and kitchen remodelling project to a period property near Old Windsor, replacing a small existing conservatory with a spacious, light-filled kitchen and dining area.
The existing conservatory was completely removed and a new extension constructed from the ground up, including new foundations and concrete slab, significant structural alterations to open the rear of the original house, cranked structural steelwork and a high roof incorporating a large feature rooflight. Underfloor heating and parquet flooring were installed throughout the new space, together with extensive glazing to maximise natural light and create a strong connection with the garden.
The completed extension incorporates a new kitchen and generous open-plan dining area, with large glazed doors opening directly onto a newly finished patio. The combination of the high ceiling, roof glazing and wide garden elevation transformed what had previously been a relatively small rear conservatory into a bright and substantial living space sympathetic to the character of the original period property.
The project was photographed again following completion, showing how the extension had become an established part of the home. YSI was later invited back by the same client to undertake the replacement of the main house roof.
